Junior Arts Summer Workshop 2021

Nephron

The 2021 Summer Workshop production of Cinderella is now in production. Performances begin August 1st and run through August 8th for 12 performances of three casts! FALL CLASSES ARE OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT!

KIDS ACT Performance Workshop – Ages 4-8 – Cost: $205

10 Weeks Mondays 5:00-5:50. Starting September 13. 

100% laughter and fun are a guarantee! This class is designed for the very young theatre student to emphasize creativity, imagination and having fun while learning the basics of acting. Each student develops at least one commercial and one monologue. 

Showcase given at the end of the semester on last day. 

Taught by Caroline Davis and Abby Scruggs.

ACT UP Performance Workshop – Ages 7 and up – Cost: $175

8 Weeks Fridays 5:30-6:30. Starting October 1. 

This is a class developed for beginning to intermediate level students who want to learn more about acting. This hands-on class includes creative dramatics, improvisation, basic character development, audition techniques, script analysis, memorization, theatre terminology, and acting for the camera. Actors showcase their work on the 8th class. 

Taught by Mark DiNovo.

ACT UP II Performance Workshop – Ages 8-15 – Cost: $230

10 weeks Mondays 6:00-7:00. Starting September 13. 

This is a class designed for the student who has some stage experience or has had a class before. Students will learn acting techniques, character development, building confidence, memorization techniques, method acting, movement for the stage, and script analysis. 

Performance showcase on the 10th class. 

Taught by veteran actress and theatre teacher Vicky Jackson

ACT UP III Acting for Teens/Adults – Ages 16+ – Cost: $145

8 weeks Wednesdays 5:45-7:00. Starting September 29. 

This is a beginning level acting class for older teens/adults with or without experience. Learn about Method Acting, various acting techniques, creating a character, improvisation, Script analysis and much more. Designed for students who have always wanted to explore acting. Students will develop a monologue in addition to many acting exercises. 

Taught by veteran actress, Debra Leopard. Limited enrollment.

 Adult/Teen Acting for the Camera – Ages 14 & up – Cost: $170

8 weeks Thursdays 5:30-7:00. Starting September 9. 

This is a beginning level class for those interested in the film and television industry. Learn about working with the camera, working with an agent, film terminology, and mastering auditions. Students will develop a monologue for a for film audition. Work will be filmed and critiqued. 

Taught by experienced film actor, Merritt Vann and talent agency experienced acting coach, Debra Leopard. Limited enrollment.

Musical Theatre – Beg/Intermediate – Ages 6-10 – Cost: $230

10 Weeks Tuesdays 5:00-6:00. Starting September 14. 

This class is designed for the serious acting student with an emphasis on Musical Theatre. This class will be challenging but fun and will include choreography and singing for the stage designed for the beginning to intermediate level student. Solo, Duet/Trio, small group and large group material from a variety of musicals. Singing and dancing experience is not necessary. 

Broadway Revue Finale! 

Taught by professional dancer/singer/actress Candice Pipkin.

Musical Theatre- Advanced – Ages 11-18 – Cost: $230 

10 weeks Tuesdays 6:00-7:00. Starting September 14. 

A class designed for the serious acting student with an emphasis on Musical Theatre. This class will be challenging but fun and will include choreography and singing for the stage -designed for the advanced level student. Solos, Duos/Trios, small group and large group material 

from a variety of musicals.

Audition Workshop – Ages 6 through 15 – Cost: $25

Saturday October 9th. 10:00-12:00. 

This is a two-hour workshop designed to help actors improve audition techniques and boost confidence prior to upcoming auditions at Village Square or other theatres. Vocal techniques, expression, stage fright, how to prepare, improvisation exercises and advice on standing out in a crowd will be covered. Students will go through mock acting and singing auditions using several different scripts and will be directed on ways to make improvements. Advice will be given on choices for selection of audition music. Students will also “get into the mind of a director” to learn about what directors look for at auditions. For those who are new to the audition process, students will learn what to expect. For those who have auditioned before, students will learn how to improve.
